New Zhuhai leaders herald bright future

Guo Yuanqiang was elected chairman of the Standing Committee and Zheng Renhao as city mayor just before the First Session of the 9th People's Congress of Zhuhai Municipality concluded on Jan 14.

The third plenary meeting of the session was hosted by Wang Guangquan and Chen Ying, executive chairmen of the Presidium, starting at 9 am.

The 290 deputies voted in Chen Ying, Guan Yingyan, Huang Rui, Tian Zhongmin, Wu Qingshan, and Wang Hongqin as vice-chairmen; and Li Li as secretary-general. Wang Qingli, Liu Jiawen, Shi Mingfeng, Lu Xiaofeng, Zhang Yisheng, and Yan Wu were tallied as deputy mayors. Moreover, Huang Jiongmeng was voted president of the Zhuhai Intermediate People's Court and Huang Weiyu chief procurator of the People's Procuratorate (according to law, the chief procurator candidate of the city shall report to the chief procurator of the Provincial People's Procuratorate for the approval of the Standing Committee).

The resolution on the Zhuhai municipal government's work report was passed, along with motions on execution of the 2016 plan for national economic and social development and on the 2017 draft plan, execution of the 2016 budget, 2017 budget, and the work reports of the Standing Committee, Zhuhai Intermediate People's Court, and People's Procuratorate. Committee directors, deputy directors, and members were also chosen.

Guo Yuanqiang said that over the past five years, the Congress, Standing Committee and deputies have taken the lead in blazing trials in legislation and public supervision, making contributions toward the development of democracy and rule by law, and the sound economic and social development of Zhuhai.

He also stressed that the next five years will be crucial for the city to score a first in building a prosperous society in all aspects and creating a new situation of socialist modernization. The new leadership of the congress will, with a stronger sense of political responsibility and historical mission, perform their duties in earnest. He called upon all the members to remain mobilized for brand-new endeavors in the upcoming years.
