In recent years, Zhuhai Port Holdings has exerted its advantages to develop Zhuhai Port into a core logistics pivot. It has connected with the hinterlands in Southwest China and West Guangdong through multimodal transport channels such as river-sea, sea-railway, and highway-railway-river combined transportation. It has also connected with the Sichuan-Guizhou-Guangdong-Southern Asia International Logistics Channel of forelands in Southeast and South Asia through international routes, opened up logistics channels to countries and regions along the route of the Belt & Road Initiative, and extended backland sources of goods to better serve regional economic development.
The four 100,000-dwt container terminals costing about 3.9 billion yuan ($566 million) are important nodes of Zhuhai’s response to the B&R initiative. At present, the Berth 1 has been handed over for acceptance, Berth 2 is about to enter this process, and Berths 3 and 4 are under construction. The four can realize a container throughput of 5 million TEUs upon completion.
The port’s radiation force will be further strengthened after construction of Guizhou (Changming) International Land Port, operation of Sichuan Suining Office of Zhuhai Port, and upgrade of Zhuhai Port Southeast Asia International Route, adding ports in Singapore, Belawan in Indonesia, and Yangon in Myanmar to transfer goods to all the major ports in Southeast and South Asia, and the Middle East, according to a government official.
