Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai

The tallest building in Zhuhai or Macao, the 330-m Zhuhai Center debuted with a lighting ceremony in Shizimen Central Business District on Jan 21, just in time for Chinese New Year. 

Confronting the Macao Tower across the water from Wanzai, the Zhuhai Center is shaped like a polyhedral diamond, which has already become a magnificent landmark for the Zhuhai-Macao area. 

The new skyscraper morphed into a huge projector screen for an eight-minute light show, vividly producing images of a waterfall, sea, dolphins, fish, butterflies, flowers, and eventually stars glittering above the two areas.

Constructed by Huafa Urban Operation Investment Holdings Co Ltd, the building is a key part of the convention and exhibition cluster of the Shizimen Central Business Area, comprised of an international standard Grade-A office building and an international platinum 5-star hotel -- St. Regis. The hotel will further enhance Zhuhai’s city tourism image and international level as well as promote the high-end service industry by offering world-leading facilities and amenities and internationalized business events. With a 270°ocean view, the office building is expected to draw large-scale enterprises and headquarters to settle down, leading local modern service and emerging industries by attracting talents and resources, according to a spokesperson. 

The Shizimen Central Business District came under construction on June 28, 2010 as the first key project of Hengqin New Area. In October 2014, the district’s startup project -- the Zhuhai International Convention & Exhibition Center (first phase) came into service. The facility is now a core venue for conventions, exhibitions, and the modern service sector on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary. It is also a major comprehensive exhibition destination integrating conference, hotel, concert hall, and theater. 

A global investment promotion has recently been initiated, and the second phase of the Zhuhai International Convention & Exhibition Center is also under construction. Facilities of the Wanzai area will be further improved, promoting Zhuhai’s modern services related to convention, exhibition, and hotel to an even higher level. It will also facilitate Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao economic integration, Zhuhai-Macao urban integration, as well as the balanced development of both sides of the Pearl River Delta, the spokesperson added.
