The first-time spotting of a female Common Rosefinch was made Jan 22 on Qi'ao Island, according to the Zhuhai Bird Watchers Association.

A Common Rosefinch observed on Qi'ao Island
In ancient times, rosefinches were deemed auspicious for their sweet songs and elegance. During winter months, rosefinches can be seen in Guangdong, but they have never been recorded as far south as Zhuhai.
Common Rosefinches often winter in India and South China.
The species lives as far west as the UK and as east as Japan. Its main habitats are coniferous forests, thickets, wetlands, gardens, and orchards.
Traveling alone or in pairs, the birds move and forage in small groups during non-breeding phases. They eat insects during breeding seasons, and fruit, seeds, and leaves at other times.

The bird's appearance substantiates the improved environment of Qi'ao Island, experts say, adding that it could also be a good omen just days before Spring Festival.
