Board chairman Ou Huisheng of Zhuhai Port Holdings Group has been selected as one of the Top Ten Most Influential People in the port sector.

Chineseport.cn, together with other professional port media, used WeChat for a public vote on a slate of 30 candidates who had made significant achievements in 2016. 

Ou has led Zhuhai Port Holdings Group to increase throughput to 90.43 million tons in 2016, a year-on-year growth of 27.8 percent. The port processed 1.56 million shipping containers, up 28.88 percent from 2015, making it one of the busiest ports in China.

In line with the country's Belt & Road Initiative, Zhuhai Port Group accelerated establishment of the Sichuan-Guizhou-Guangdong-Southern Asia International Logistics Channel, and joined with Eurogate Group, one of the largest global pulp logistics service providers, to build the South China Paper Pulp Logistics Distribution Center in 2016.

Under Ou's leadership, the group has set up many multimodal transportation channels such as the Gaolan-Yunnan, -Qingyuan-Yuantan, -Shaoguan, and -Hengyang channels.

Last year, the port launched an e-port and "single window" international trade platform, reducing red tape for traders. Zhuhai Port Risen Energy, the group's main business platform for electric power, was listed on the New Third Board, also known as National Equities Exchange & Quotations. The group's Six Sigma project was awarded for innovative management of state-owned enterprises.

Other notable port professionals on the list included Li Hezhong, chairman of Ying Kou Port Group; Lu Wei, CEO of Tianjin Port Group; and Li Xiaopeng, chairman of China Merchants Port Holdings.
