With a substantial increase in border crossings, the General Station of Exit-Entry Frontier Inspection processed more than 55,000 vehicles, a growth of 1.3 percent over the same period last year. Gongbei, Hengqin, and Jiuzhou remained the three major ports for passengers to enter and exit from. For example, Gongbei Checkpoint inspected more than 350,000 passengers on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, and Hengqin broke its single-day border-crossing records for three consecutive days from the 3rd to 5th of the Lunar New Year.
Compared to the same period last year, an increase of 12 percent in the number of passengers from the Chinese mainland traveled to Hong Kong and Macao during the holiday, amounting to 60 percent of the total passing through Zhuhai checkpoints. Passenger totals from Hong Kong and Macao also increased by 4.6 percent year-on-year, accounting for 37 percent of the number.
Staff at the General Station of Exit-Entry Frontier Inspection had made plans to ensure safety and security during peak times. The station also guaranteed safety and order by arranging for different numbers of police on various days in the light of past flows and volume forecasting.
During the period, the station was universally praised for helping border-crossers solve pressing needs, including opening up green channels for five seriously ill people and transacting emergency return procedures for over 60 who had lost traffic permits.
