Applications for trademark registration will soon be handled by the Hengqin New Area Administration for Industry & Commerce. With State Administration for Industry & Commerce approval in hand, office facilities are now being prepared.
The designation follows approval to establish office windows to accept registered trademark pledges in Hengqin. Previously, trademark registrants needed to handle formalities in person at the Trademark Registration Hall in Beijing or entrust agencies to complete the process. Now, registrants -- including those from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan -- can apply for and receive trademark registration certificates from the Hengqin New Area Administration for Industry & Commerce.

Wu Chuangwei, director of the Hengqin administration, called the approval a significant measure to facilitate trademark registration and enable registrants to transact procedures locally. Hengqin New Area also takes the provincial lead in granting trademark subsidies. It recently issued Measures to Promote Scientific & Technological Innovation, which stipulates a series of incentives to support trademarks. Moreover, Hengqin plans to earmark at least 300 million yuan ($43.7 million) in subsidies within three years to support its enterprises.
The designation will help draw enterprises from all over the country to establish companies and apply for trademark registration in Hengqin, according to Wu.
