Zhuhai has just been designated as one of 51 key regional multimodal transport hub cities in the national great logistics channel and nodes schematic diagram released by the Ministry of Transport of the PRC.

The ministry held a press conference in Beijing in January promoting construction of 11 great logistics channels and 85 nodes. These will be coordinated with the National Development & Reform and relevant commissions. The goal is to mobilize and enhance social logistics via a smooth, intensive, efficient, smart, and green channel system.

A “great logistics channel” refers to cross-regional, long-distance, high-duty goods transport with multimodal traffic modes, intensive traffic resources, and prominent strategic position. It will significantly reinforce the integration of transportation and logistics, improve the industrial development level of logistics, facilitate regional coordination, and optimize industrial layout.

The ministry plans to develop 85 logistics channel nodes by 2020, including 23 national backbone and 51 regional ones. They highlight multimodal transport hub cities, as well as 11 overland border port hubs. In Guangdong Province, Zhuhai, Zhanjiang, Shantou, and Dongguan were designated as key regional multimodal transport hub cities, while Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Foshan are backbone multimodal transport hub cities in the plan.
