"Smart Xiangzhou" will promote fiber optic broadband networks in old residential areas, it was determined at the second meeting of the 9th Xiangzhou District People's Congress on Feb 16.

Also in the approved "smart" works is full coverage of wireless networks in public service venues. This entails 50 additional Wi-Fi hotspots in community parks, greenway stations, and other public areas.

Furthermore, 58 million yuan ($8.4 million) will be spent building the Xiangzhou Big Data Platform and a contingency command website intended to optimize urban development, boost urban renewal and Smart City construction, and improve governance.

To enhance the level of public service intelligence, the district government plans to build the first-batch 23 Smart Communities, Smart Office buildings, a Smart Community platform system, and a Smart Education service platform. A number of intelligent office facility demonstration projects such as the city's first MOBO (mobile office business office) building will also be constructed.

In the meantime, district hospitals will be reformed with information technology, and 3,000 video access control systems will be installed on behalf of intelligent management. The integrated development of industrialization and information technology will be advanced, and Smart Industry development including intelligent manufacturing, internet, Internet of Things, cloud computing and big data will be supported. 

Xiangzhou will also boost urban renewal and motivate the Dongda Industrial Area to lead in constructing an industrial complex. Projects of the Hengxin Industrial Area and renovation of the former Livzon factory building will start by the end of June. Another 16 projects are guaranteed to be completed in 2018.

Additionally, the renovation of five old villages will commence. They are: Shangchong, Yinkeng, and Dongqiao in the first half of this year, and Nanxi and Hongdong by year-end.
