More than 30 elite musicians from seven countries are preparing to bring their distinctive folk music to the Beishan World Music Festival on April 22-23.

On the marquee at Beishan Outdoor Square in Nanping Town is Celtic Social Club with the strong tribal style of that genre. Established in 2013 in France, the band will enthuse the venue with rap and musical-instrument solos.

Joining them on the program is Tonolec Trio from Argentina, which integrates with electronic music songs of Iran and the Maya. It is regarded as a new trend in Argentina to blend modern and former cultures via folk music.

Moreover, The Marmot from the Mongol ethnic group combines affection for their native grassland with throat singing in khoomei fashion, which is said to give the impression of “wind swirling among rocks.”

Additionally, special guest Ricardo Vogt, winner of three Grammy Awards, will perform with a children’s choir. The Brazilian-born jazz guitarist is a “bossa nova wunderkind who was internationally acclaimed before age 10,” according to his alma mater, the Berklee School of Music.

Besides music, the festival will also provide colorful recreational activities and stages for children. Professionals from Zhuhai, Hong Kong, and Macao will jointly hold a Guangdong-Macao Art & Design Exchange Exhibition with college student entrepreneurs to imbue an artistic atmosphere.

Lastly, it was announced at a March 21 press conference that the organizer plans to cooperate with one of the top-five domestic record publishers -- Guangdong Starsing Culture Communication Co Ltd -- to found Zhuhai Beishan Starsing Music Development Co Ltd for a local music industrial base.
