Zhuhai's GDP grows 7% in H1

Zhuhai's GDP reached 148.32 billion yuan ($21.53 billion) in the first half of 2019, up 7 percent year-on-year. The growth rate ranks third in Guangdong Province, according to the city's statistics bureau.
The added value for industrial enterprises above designated size rose by 5.8 percent to 53.55 billion yuan ($7.78 billion) in the first six months of this year. Pillar industries such as household appliances and biomedicine were major contributors.
The wholesale, retail, accommodation, and catering industries grew steadily, with their turnover seeing a respective increase of 13.6 percent, 4.7 percent, 8.1 percent and 11.3 percent during the period.
In addition, fixed-asset investment was 90 billion yuan ($13 billion), a year-on-year increase of 4.2 percent. Investment to education, health, and other livelihood projects recorded a whopping growth rate of 56.7 percent.

A signal of the continuously warming consumer market, the total retail sales of consumer goods in Zhuhai hit 60.76 billion yuan ($8.82 billion) during the January-June period, up 5.5 percent year-on-year, 1.5 percentage points higher than the first quarter.
