XJTU team wins big in international regatta open
The team from Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) won three gold and one bronze medals at the seventh Shenyang International Open Regatta, which was held on Sept 20-22 in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China's Liaoning province.
The competition featured several categories, including an elite group, a masters group, student group, and a youth group. The race distances were 1,000 meters and 2,000 meters, with events such as single sculls, double sculls, quadruple sculls, and coxed eight.
The XJTU team, consisting of 23 students, participated in four events, competing with another 28 teams from universities at home and abroad. The student team gave an impressive performance, winning three gold medals in the university group for the 1,000-meter mixed coxed eight, 2,000-meter women's quadruple sculls, and 2,000-meter men's coxed eight, along with a bronze medal in the 1,000-meter men's quadruple sculls.
In the final of the mixed coxed eight, the team faced strong competition from the University of Otago in New Zealand and the Chinese Culture University. Despite the pressure, they held their ground and, in the final sprint, surged from third to second and then to first place, crossing the finish line ahead of their rivals to claim the championship.
