With two major projects, Laisun Creative Culture City and Xiangzhou Port Culture Block, now being constructed, the zone will boost production and research for a cultural and creative industry chain and a first-class creativity base. The platform is seen as an international facility for South China focusing on red sandalwood displays and cultural exchanges. It features cultural inheritance, a creative work environment, and business and leisure facilities.
The first cultural industry demonstration project in Hengqin, it will also attract high-end culture-related enterprises and develop into a multipurpose entity serving the culture industry, talent, business, finance, and information services.
A spokesperson said that more enterprises would settle there and thus boost the red sandalwood culture industry in Zhuhai.
In recent years, Hengqin has striven to develop a cultural industry and has set aside a 3 sq km of land near the central Tianmu River area as the core of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Culture & Creative Industrial Zone. By utilizing resources from Guangdong and the Hong Kong and Macao SARs, the zone will develop cultural and creative enterprises in the region and explore practices that are replicable across the nation.
The developer, Fu Wah International Group, is in the business of real estate, culture, art, finance, and asset management. The company built the China Red Sandalwood Museum and the Chang An Club in Beijing.
To provide better insights into red sandalwood art, there will be a sandalwood engraving skills show at the Zhuhai Museum on June 11. Hu Desheng, a researcher at the Palace Museum, will deliver a keynote speech on culture at the Zhuhai Cultural Forum on the same day.
