Tangjiawan now an 'Internet Plus' creation town
Zhuhai's Tangjiawan was recently selected as one of Guangdong's first-group 10 "Internet Plus" creation towns by the Economic & Information Commission of Guangdong Province. Another eight were chosen as nurture towns.
The goals of Tangjiawan as an "Internet Plus" creation town are to cultivate two or three leading Internet enterprises with strong competitiveness nationwide, to form two or three distinctive Internet industrial ecospheres with outstanding comparative advantages, to create three to five innovative Internet application brands with nationwide influence, and to become an Internet characteristic town with annual output value exceeding 50 billion yuan ($7.59 billion) by 2018.
Located in north Zhuhai, the 139-sq km "Internet Plus" town is composed of Tangjia and Jinding towns and Qi'ao Island. With focus on hi-tech industries, it has become one of three engines driving Zhuhai's economic development. Its initial plan includes three industrial belts -- Qianhuan Headquarters, Technology Innovation Coast, and Jinding Technological Industrial areas.
To create a contemporary science park suitable for both employment and residence, the Qianhuan Headquarters area will integrate Internet enterprises, upscale housing and the business conference and exhibition industry. Meanwhile, the Technology Innovation Coast will construct a cluster for mobile Internet terminal chips' R&D and design, e-commerce and Internet-based enterprises to match the TOD green low-carbon urban area.
Tangjiawan Town, which is located in the Zhuhai Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone, has attracted 42 Internet enterprises, which yielded total output value of 33.29 billion yuan ($5.05 billion) last year, accounting for 79.5 percent of the zone's total. Seventeen Internet enterprises reaped annual output value of 200 million yuan ($30.36 million) each.
The town has formed two Internet industrial clusters. One is the mobile Internet intelligent terminal technology application industrial cluster represented by Meizu Technology and Allwinner Technology, integrating intelligent communications terminal equipment R&D and manufacture, intelligent communications chip design, and mobile Internet software development. The cluster has nearly a 10 percent share of the industry.
The other is the Internet technology application industrial cluster represented by Kingsoft and YGSOFT, combining Internet information security technology and Internet technology applications software R&D. The core of its industrial chain is Internet information security and Internet broadband intelligent technology R&D.
Enterprises in Tangjiawan invested 820 million yuan ($124.48 million) in research and development last year, bringing about 364 intellectual property rights and sci-tech achievement transformations, and creating 16 innovative and entrepreneurial platforms.
Moreover, the town has established a hi-tech start-up investment guidance fund, built a financial square, and founded facilitating agencies to help software and Internet industries provide favorable environments and platforms for the development of the Internet industry in the hi-tech zone and throughout Zhuhai.
