Chinese tennis player Zhang Shuai defeated No9-ranked Swiss player Timea Bacsinszky in the opening game of the WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai at the Hengqin International Tennis Center on Nov 1.

Zhang won the toss and gained the initiative from the start, taking the first set 6:1 from Bacsinszky, who had won three singles and four doubles titles on the WTA Tour. Although Bacsinszky fought harder in the second set, Zhang already controlled the situation and won that one as well, again with a score of 6:1.

After the competition, Zhang was excited about the win, which came at her first appearance in Zhuhai. She also expressed heartfelt thanks to fans from around the country, saying, “They made me better and stronger!”
