Petra Kvitova overcame a slow start en route to hoisting the Huajin Securities WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai after a straight-set win over Elina Svitolina on Sunday, Nov 6.

Last month, Kvitova marked her return to form by powering to the Wuhan title, and she was every bit as impressive in Zhuhai, dispatching Svitolina, 6-4, 6-2 in just an hour and 10 minutes, according to a posting by the Women's Tennis Association.

Svitolina sits only one place behind Kvitova in the current rankings and early on she looked capable of finishing on a high what has been a promising season. However, after failing to hold any of her opening three service games, Kvitova took charge, five unanswered games giving her the opening set as she hurtled toward the 19th title of her career.

The result completed a dominant week for the Czech, who dropped just 18 games in her four matches. It also continues her love affair with Asia, where she has now reached six finals, winning three of them.

"I knew that it's still in my hands. I just felt that she played a little bit more aggressively than me in the beginning of the match," Kvitova said in her post-match interview. "So I was a little bit trying to get the rhythm to play a little bit more aggressive, maybe a little bit longer rallies …

"That I think I did. I started to serve a little bit better as well, even I had more double faults that I wish. But I still think that I (would) find a way to kind of beat her. I played her in Wuhan and I was a break down there as well from the beginning of the match. I just probably knew that it still (was) not the end, so I was just trying to play point by point. That was the kind of the style of the match," Kvitova said.
