Road transformations increasing safety, vehicle flow
Zhuhai is widening streets, adding infrastructure, smartening up traffic lights, and building additional passageways for smoother traffic flow.
Ten trouble spots faced by regular commuters will have been broadened by the end of this year. Six, including the intersection of National Highway 105 (G105) and Nanfu Road near Nanxi Village, Qianshan, are to be upgraded by August. The work will be done mostly at night to lessen any impact on daily life, according to Wu Zhihai, head of the Smart Transportation Department of the Zhuhai Transport Bureau.

Overpasses have already been built to give better and safer choices to pedestrians otherwise having to cross roads in heavy traffic. In addition, Gangwan Avenue of Tangjiawan Town will have three pedestrian underpasses installed harmoniously with roadside landscaping to serve nearby residents, according to Yang Shisong, news spokesman of the bureau.
Furthermore, implementation of the advanced adaptive traffic signal system ensures that when traffic is heavier, green lights stay on longer; the less traffic, the shorter the go signals. Since the adaptive system was adopted at 100 road intersections in April, general traffic flow capacity has increased by about 15 percent. The traffic light controls automatically collect information and make adjustments.

Another two tunnels and a slow-traffic passageway are soon to relieve traffic pressure through Banzhang Mt. Also progressing is the project to widen the Qianshan Bridge on East Zhuhai Ave to 12 lanes and also widen the avenue over to where it meets Mingda Road.
The city is also seeking to overcome bottlenecks by accelerating construction of Xingye and Jinqin express roads, Xianghai and Honghe bridges, Zhuhai Airport Urban Rail Transit Phase I, Hezhou-Gaolan Port Express Road Phase I, and the main and subordinate lines of Lovers Avenue South Section.
