Yeli Island Park re-emerges in loveliness and harmony

Updated: 2018-07-26

Zhuhai's signature Yeli Island has become even more desirable after a yearlong facelift and service improvements while comfort levels and aesthetic values are quietly being enhanced with additional facilities and lighting.

When the island park reopened to the public in May, it unveiled 100,000 sq m (24.7 acres) of harmonious landscaping of neatly manicured lawns, select ornamental trees, and a diverse range of flowers. Iconic buildings such as the shell-shaped Zhuhai Opera House and Hi City are integrated into natural surroundings.

There is a new boardwalk winding along the hillside near the Opera House from which one can observe the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

A slow footpath system of boardwalks will be installed to connect the views at a summit pavilion. Visitors will also be able to relax at a proposed tourist service center, comprehensive service site, weatherproof corridor, and rest station.

The old embankment was extended to 1 km (.6 mile) to allow for seaside fun. There is also a 1.1-km (.68-mile) coastal footpath with a safety fence and viewing platform on the northeastern part of the island.

A newly planted mangrove forest, covering 6,000 sq m (1.5 acres) on an offshore area, attracts flocks of egrets that forage between stones in the clear water.

According to a project head, more improvements are quietly under way, most scheduled for completion later this year and next.
