The moon represents a tourism boom throughout Zhuhai
More than 951,600 visitors, including 237,900 overnighters, were in Zhuhai for the Sept 24-26 Mid-Autumn Festival break, spending 652 million yuan ($102 million) to celebrate at myriad events.
The traditional Chinese moon festival of family reunion falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, usually in September or October.
According to the Zhuhai General Station of Exit-Entry Frontier Inspection, more than 1.1 million border crossings were recorded at checkpoints during the holiday, an average of 430,000 passengers daily. Gongbei Checkpoint processed over 90 percent of them.
Moon-viewing on Dong'ao Island
Most-visited were Hengqin Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, Yeli Island, Xianglu Bay, Qi'ao Island, and New Yuanming Palace, according to the Culture, Sports & Tourism Bureau.
Jinwan District shared a plentiful bounty with both city dwellers and rural villagers enjoying the just-initiated Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival. Theme sites such as Sumlodol Hengqin Camping Town in Hengqin New Area had a good response to tailor-made entertainments while Jinwan's Ocean Spring Resort and Doumen District's Yu Wen Quan Imperial Hot Springs proved equally popular. Characteristic arts activities were held across the city at the same time.
Beach fun
There were large increases in number of visitors to the Rossini Watch Museum in the Zhuhai National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone in Tangjiawan, Xiangzhou District and the By-Health transparent factory in Jinwan, each of which received nearly 10,000 tourists on festival days.
Meanwhile, island tourism destinations such as Guishan and Dong'ao catered to visitors by integrating festival traditions with fishing and beach activities.
According to the mobile big data platform, the tourist flow came mainly from the Pearl River Delta and cities along the high-speed rail line.
