Folk Art Festival has music, culture, food, entertainment
Folk art shows, culinary delicacies, and music festivals will animate Doumen District during the Oct 1-to-7 National Day holiday and beyond.
The 3rd Doumen Folk Art Festival will feature such local intangible cultural heritage items as Sacrificial Rites of Imperial Family, which will be held at Luyi Ancestral Hall in Nanmen Village from 10 to 11: 30 am on Oct 1.
Sacrificial Rites of Imperial Family
More than 170 Hefeng Senior High School students and inheritors will form a sacrificial squad composed of ancient civil and military officials, priests, dancing girls, scholars, flag-bearers, and road blazers. They will set out from Nanmen Primary School and proceed to the ancestral hall to perform court dances of the Song Dynasty (960-1279), kowtow, and study the classics.
Highlighted will be the 7th Collective On-Water Wedding Ceremony and 12th Shatian Folk Song Contest in Baijiao Town's Nan'ao Village on Oct 28. The charm of two national-level cultural heritages -- On-Water Weddings and Catching Mudfish -- will be fully evident.

The Lianjiang Countryside Music Festival will take place at Shili Lianjiang Agriculture Sightseeing & Experience Garden from 6 to 9 pm on Oct 1 and 2. Ten bands and singers, including The Master, Monster Kar, Hey! Lily!, Gryphin, Zhou Xiaoyuan, and Tulegur Gangzi, will bring an eclectic mix of rock, folk, ethnic, and world music.
The 2018 Doumen Food Festival will be held at the square in front of Doumen Sports Center from Oct 1 to 5. It will host 150 stands in areas earmarked for local specialties and delicacies, Famous Chinese Snacks from around the country, as well as poverty-alleviation fancy fairs.
An award ceremony for the 2018 Doumen Culinary Delicacies & Famous Chefs is scheduled for Oct 1.
