Dance, music, drama on Zhuhai Opera House playbills
The Nov 17-30 schedule of Zhuhai Opera House on Yeli Island in Xiangzhou opens with traditional Chinese followed by modern dances. After them comes a world-famous violinist, then a "golden" comedy, and a Song Dynasty love story.
Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Area Art Boutique Tour
A variety show consisting of 11 award-winning performances will be staged on Nov 17, before moving to Dongguan, Hong Kong, and elsewhere. Dances, musical numbers, Chinese operas, and acrobatics that originated in Guangdong but now have widespread popularity will make this performance a bouquet of delights.
Highlights include a Lion Dance on high poles, Qiangu Dance (a unique form of drum dance), and Yingge Dance (a group dance featuring elaborate masks and costumes), all representing high levels of folk art.
The event is sponsored by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture & Tourism.

American dancer and choreographer Paul Taylor (1930-2018) was a pioneer in third-generation modern dance circles. The dance troupe named after him was set up in 1954 and enjoys a worldwide first-class reputation. The two-day show will display the most classic pieces in the troupe's repertoire.
Performances are Changes, Esplanade, Arden Court, Plazzolla Caldera, and Mercuric Tidings.

Stan Lai (Lai Sheng-chuan), an award-winning US-born Taiwan-based playwright and theater director, is about to offer a nonstop laugh fest, but with a twist. On stage will be a haphazard ensemble of actors who are to perform a Chinese presentation of Pot of Gold by Plautus in an old Shanghai theatre that will soon be demolished. The Romance of a Hairpin
A not-to-be-missed performance for enthusiasts of Chinese traditional culture is the adaption of a classic piece from Yueju Opera of Zhejiang Province. The love story is set in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). The protagonist is grassroots scholar Wang Shipeng, living in Wenzhou, Zhejiang. He travels a long and rocky road to success and true love. After a loss, he is restored to his lover, Qian Yulian, by discovery of a token -- a hairpin.
