Guishan Island proves itself paradise for reeling in fish
Angling for more tourists, Guishan Island used its fishing resources to draw in 120 enthusiasts from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Portugal for the International Fishing Festival of Guishan 2018.
Although winners were not ready to be announced, the Dec 15-17 competition offers a prize pool of 150,000 yuan ($21,750).
Awards for deep-bodied marine fish are being based on weights of the total catch and of individual sea bream and other fish. The champion will be awarded 50,000 yuan ($7,250).
Also in store for anglers, their guests, and others were an Island Feast, Mysterious Guishan Self-Guided Tour, large song and dance party, and industrial forum. Brought in were more than 50 experts, professors, and industry veterans to discuss the synergy between offshore angling and island tourism.
Speedboating
Visitors joined locals in sampling Guishan delicacies, trying their hands at leisure angling, and speedboating around the island. Exhibition and sales fairs related to offshore angling and aquatic and marine products were also held.
The event was hosted by the Zhuhai Fishing Association and Zhuhai Zhonggui Leisure Fishing Co under the umbrella of the Wanshan Marine Development Experimental Zone, Guishan government, Guangdong Fishing Association, and Zhuhai All Sports Federation.
Guishan Island is rich in fish, shellfish, and algae and home to more than 100 marine specialties. Red, black, or yellow-finned sea bream; rock bream (Oplegnathus fasciatus); grouper; rudderfish; sea bass; and more are found there.
