A 61-year-old man who passed out Jan 11 while traveling on Bus 36 has pulled through with the timely help of the driver and cooperation from passengers – providing evidence that Zhuhai is a city of people who care for others.

The elder boarded the bus at Cuijing Industrial Park in Qianshan en route to Xiawan in Gongbei. He later said he felt ill before fainting due to abnormal low blood pressure (hypotension) as the bus passed Hairong New Village. The driver, surnamed Tian, stopped at a nearby bus station and dialed 120 for help.

Tian's decision was backed by his supervisor who urged him to treat the passenger as though he were family. As the driver did just that, the more than 40 passengers aboard volunteered to transfer to other buses although they were all crowded during the morning rush hour.

Driver Tian gave the unidentified man warm water to drink and helped contact his youngest son once he regained consciousness. Tian didn't leave the bus stop until the passenger was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

A Chinese saying goes: "Good-heartedness often meets with recompense." The victim's son, surnamed Zou, had been awarded a certificate for courageous acts in 2017. Zou said he was glad that his father could also get help from caring people.

Just yesterday, it was reported that Zhuhai has been restored as a National Civilized City, the top and most-difficult-to-obtain domestic honor granted by the Civilization Office of the Central Communist Party Committee.
