Special hospitals getting readied in Nanping, Doumen
Three new hospitals dedicated to either the care of women and children, chronic diseases, or comprehensive treatment will open in Zhuhai during the next few years.
To operate by the end of this year is a satellite campus of the Women's & Children's Hospital with 800 beds and comprehensive medical treatment. Situated near Nanqin Road in Guangsheng Village of Nanping Town in Xiangzhou District, it is designated as a Grade-3 Class-A facility.
The new center will have outpatient and emergency departments along with children's and advanced obstetric wards. Ground was broken in August 2016 on the project, which will cost nearly 1 billion yuan ($148 million). The parent facility was founded in 1954 at 543 Ningxi Road, Old Xiangzhou.

Expected to admit patients before December 2020, the Zhuhai Center for Chronic Disease Control (Zhuhai Third Renmin Hospital) is under construction in Guangsheng Village east of Nanqin Road in Nanping. It is to be the first public psychiatric hospital in Zhuhai dedicated to preventing, treating, and controlling occupational diseases.
A related needs study shows that 72 percent of chronic disease patients and others needing more attention in Zhuhai had applied for family doctors as of the first quarter of 2018. The program supplements current medical services and includes 310 family doctor teams.
On the other hand, scheduled for completion in June 2021, the Western Medical Center will be the first-of-its-kind public comprehensive hospital up to Grade-3 Class-A standards in the West Wing. It is being completed at Western Central Urban Area Zone A of Doumen District. The .11-sq-km (27-acre) center will have floorage of 168,830 sq m (42 acres) and will integrate treatment, education, research, and health preservation.
Zhuhai has so far allocated a central government subsidy of 15.6 million yuan ($2.3 million) to meet basic public health service goals. These funds have been increased to more than 60 yuan ($9) per person per year.
China launched the Healthy Cities initiative in 2007 to improve the physical and social environments of a city and promote healthy lifestyles. As a national pilot site for the initiative, Zhuhai is building healthy "cells" of communities, organizations, hotels, and hospitals to promote a health-oriented society. The Culture, Sports & Tourism Bureau says, for example, that there are already four "healthy" hotels and four "healthy" scenic spots meeting city standards. Sixty villages and 10 towns have also passed "healthy" construction inspections.
