The third of five customized high-speed catamaran passenger vessels was launched by Jiuzhou Holdings on Jan 21 on a run between Jiuzhou Port, Jida and Wanshan Island.

Luxury vessel Xīn Hǎi Liàng (新海亮 New Sea Light) has 272 seats and a large window that gives passengers in the prow a panorama view.

The propeller-driven boat can cruise at 27.5 knots (51 kmph, 32 mph). Designed by Australian shipbuilder Austal, it makes little noise and has much stability, creating an effective deterrence to seasickness. 

According to a manager, Jiuzhou Holdings spent 230 million yuan ($34 million) on the five vessels. Xīn Hǎi Bīn (新海滨 New Coast) went into service last August. Xīn Hǎi Tiān (新海天 New Sea & Sky) was unveiled on Jan 18 and is to enter service before Spring Festival on Feb 5. The New Sea & Sky has 356 seats, more than any other Jiuzhou Holdings vessel.

There are now 30 daily island trips managed by Jiuzhou Holdings. Another two ferry boats will be added in March and June whereas more will be put in service during summer peak season, the manager added.
