Tianmu River Park in Hengqin New Area is 90 percent completed and expected to fully open to the public by May 30. For a preview, however, the Community Demonstration Section has been in operation since last spring.

The park is situated between Second Qinyue Road (琴乐二路) and Roundabout West Embankment Water Gate (环岛西堤水闸). It has five functional zones, with its character gradually transitioning from nature to modernity.  

Community Park opened last May with a jogging path, roadside sports fields, trees, flowers, statues, and stone carvings. 

Tianmu River Park

The four other components are: Ecological Community, which is designed with the ocean in mind, links the landscape to various marine elements. Heart of Tianmu focuses on traditional Chinese culture, integrating Lingnan elements with imperial gardens. China-West Dialogue, however, features an exotic Latin American style by color, pattern, and animal elements along coastal footpaths. And, Art Roaming is a fusion of modern business and public space, bringing together new sci-tech features and a contemporary landscape.

The five functional zones will eventually form an urban waterfront landscape belt blending offices, businesses, culture and art locales, hotels, and parks.

Basketball court

The park is landscaped for flood prevention on all its 13.73 km (8.5 miles) along the riverbank and area of 812,000 sq m (201 acres). In line with the Sponge City concept, the roads allow rainfall to flow to purification pools in the greenbelt and then to a bio-swale via underground pipes. Overflow pipes take the excessive rainfall to the municipal pipe network, completing the circulation system.

The project can store 11,939 cubic meters of rainfall annually, with control rates of annual runoff and non-point source pollution set to exceed 87 percent and 55 percent respectively.

CCCC (Hengqin) Investment Co commenced work on the park in December 2017.

Motorists can search Huarong Qin Bay (华融琴海湾) on their navigation systems.

Or take Bus 87, get off at Jinhui International Plaza (金汇国际广场Jīnhuì Guójì Guǎngchǎng) or Gang'ao Avenue (港澳大道Gǎng'ào Dàdào), and walk south.
