Damaged median of Zhuhai Ave reappears in flowers
The 9-mile (15-km) median strip of Zhuhai Avenue from Qianshan to the Zhuhai Bridge has been landscaped to bloom year-round with spidery cleome, sunflowers, daisy-like coreopsis, rapeseed, and Chinese pennisetum.
The flower planting and installation of ornamental plants is to be completed in days. The restored landscape belt through Nanping Town is designed to further burnish Zhuhai's cityscape and boost its livability. Typhoons in the past two years have broken tree limbs, lowered the soil, torn up plants, and toppled trees, posing potential threats to vehicles.
Trees with sparse leaves along the avenue have been transplanted to New Xiangzhou's Xiangshan Lake Park, Zhuhai No 1 Middle School, and nurseries for better conservation and management.
Work on the 78,700-sq-m (19-acre) green area is being done by Zhengfang Urban Construction. Given the heavy traffic on Zhuhai Avenue, construction was halted during morning and evening peak hours.
