Tangjia Town about to experience roadway upgrades
Century-old Shanfang Road (山房路) and Longqing Street (龙庆街) will be subject to heavy construction work over the next 10 months to improve water supply, sewage, telecommunications, and gas lines in ancient Tangjia Town. Traffic will be limited.
Work begins in early April with new pumping stations, flood ditches, and other facilities to alleviate water saturation in low-lying areas and handle runoff in the rainy season. Underground pipes for water supply, sewage, telecommunications, and gas will also be improved.
Construction begins after April 5, according to a notice issued by the Tangjiawan government on March 22. The first phase of Shanfang Road and Longqing Street will be completed by January whereas the second phase of Shanfang Road, plus Tangzhong and Tangle roads, is to last a year.
Historical and artistic Shanfang Road
Motorists are advised not to use Shanfang Road (Huaxia Road (华夏路) intersection to Longqing Street) and Longqing Street (Tangnan Road (唐南路) to Shanfang Road intersection) during the construction period. Pedestrians, bikers, and motorcyclists, however, will not be affected.
Tangjia, located in the Zhuhai National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, is designated as a Famous Historical & Cultural Town in China. It has various levels of heritage structures on old roads and streets, including Wangci Shanfang House, Tang Ruizhi Family Shrine, and Gongleyuan Park.
Once the work is completed, the town is expected to have better living conditions while maintaining a charming ancient look.
