Chinese martial artists outperform American fighters
Chinese contenders took seven out of eight wins against mostly American players at the Hengqin International Tennis Center on April 27 under China's martial arts TV program Wu Lin Feng.
In the 61kg class, Zhao Chongyang beat Steve Varela in 2 minutes and 1 second with a high-powered combination of punches and knees, taking home the KO Award and 10,000 yuan ($1,490) in prize money.
Zhou Wei ousted IKF 2012 World Classic Heavyweight Champion Andrew Christian in the 87kg-class with overwhelming strength and a technical knock-out (TKO) at 1 minute and 2 seconds.
Intense confrontation
Hu Zheng, Wang Pengfei, Wei Ninghui, Zhang Wensheng, and Fu Gaofeng bested Ben Worsfold, Marciano Jordan, Will Romero, Kary Allen and Chope William Richard in the WLF 65, 66, 67, 70, and 79 kg categories respectively.
China's Li Yuankun lost to Mongolian Battelle with a weak point in the 60 kg class.
The longest-running martial arts program in China, Wu Lin Feng is a hybrid competition televised by Henan Television. K-1 fighters, mixed martial arts professionals, Muay Thai fighters, Wushu (Chinese Kungfu) and Sanda (or Sanshou combat) practitioners have been attracted to the stage over the past 15 years.
