Zhuhai checkpoints get ready for 2.3 million travelers
All nine Zhuhai border checkpoints are being readied for 2.3 million border crossings during the May 1-4 holiday with enough officers to meet the forecast rush.
During the May Day holiday, Gongbei, Jiuzhou, Hengqin, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Zhuhai Port and other checkpoints subordinate to the Zhuhai General Station of Exit-Entry Frontier Inspection will extend peak-hour processing of exits taken mostly by mainland residents for personal purposes, including shopping in Hong Kong and Macao and transferring to Southeast Asian countries. Hong Kong and Macao residents on short tours to the Pearl River Delta will also play a big part.
Specifically, Gongbei Checkpoint expects average daily passenger flow of 430,000 crossings, 9 percent higher than the same period last year. The outbound travel peak will occur from 8 am to 1 pm while inbound trips will be made mostly between 4 and 8 pm.

The point of entry between the Chinese mainland and Macao -- the busiest in China -- processed 466,100 crossings on April 6, which is a new record, but from the beginning of this year daily traffic flow of about 400,000 -- a year-on-year increase of nearly 8 percent -- has been the norm.
Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Zhuhai Port has handled 8 million passengers since opening last October and will have to deal with an anticipated daily average of 100,000 trips. The figure for Hengqin and Jiuzhou ports will reach 40,000 and 4,500.
All inspection channels will be open during rush hours. Checkpoint officials remind passengers using Express e-Channels that they should first place their ID on the front door of the channel, and after the front door opens walk in for face and fingerprint checks. If related information is verified, then the back door will open through which they can exit.
