Nine checkpoints processed 2.2 million individuals and 57,000 vehicles from May 1 to 4, according to the Zhuhai General Station of Exit-Entry Frontier Inspection, a year-on-year increase of 25 percent and 29 percent.

A new record of more than 611,000 border crossings on a single day was set May 2, breaking the one of 598,000 set Feb 7 during the Lunar New Year holiday. Gongbei Checkpoint broke its own records for the third time since the beginning of this year as it processed 481,300 crossings on May 2.

Shared data and analysis of previous statistics ensured scientific forecasts and reasonable deployment of security forces. Border crossings were eased with overtime hours and opening of all inspection channels. Coordination with Hong Kong and Macao exit and entry departments also helped, so that the waiting time during peak hours was kept to within 30 minutes.

Mainland travelers had surged in number since April 1 with passports and travel permits easily obtained at any exit and entry management point across the country.

The eight other border checkpoints are in Jiuzhou, Hengqin, Doumen, Maoshengwei, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Zhuhai Port, Zhongshan, Zhanjiang, and Jiangmen.
