In the meantime, Hengqin's first Grade-III Class-A public Hospital of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University has undergone soft foundation treatment and moved to the design stage. Costing 2.7 billion yuan ($390.7 million), the project is developed by the Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area and First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University.
The hospital faces Caihong (Rainbow) Road in the north, Hengqin Avenue to the south and South Boya Avenue in the west. It will cover 60,000 sq m (14.8 acres) with floorage of 190,000 sq m (47 acres).

Architecturally, the major part of the hospital is a half-moon-shaped podium structure surrounded by functional buildings. A riverside footpath will connect the architectural cluster, while rooftop and hanging gardens, green-plant corridor, weatherproof spaces, and central waterfall will enrich the interior landscape.
The nearby Hengqin International Life Science Center is another project led by the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University. The private medical institution is funded with a social investment of more than 3.8 billion yuan ($55 million).

Occupying 130,000 sq m (32 acres), the facility is designed to offer more than 500 beds.
