Very-needed elderly care facility going up in Nanping
Construction of Zhuhai's largest municipal elderly service institution for smart eldercare and medical treatment began in Nanping Town, Xiangzhou District on June 26 and is set for completion in September 2021.
Costing 470 million yuan ($68 million), the 11,336-sq-m (2.8-acre) facility is located south of Zhuhai Avenue and north of Lianquan Road. With floorage of 60,194 sq m (15 acres), it will have 900 nursing beds and 200 ward beds. Free or low-charge services will be offered to seniors with economic difficulties, dementia, or lowered self-care ability.
Zhuhai has over the years seen an increasing elderly population, especially those of venerable age, losing or partially losing self-care ability, and living alone. Diversified eldercare services are urgently needed, Deputy Mayor Liu Jiawen noted at the groundbreaking ceremony.
As of now, there are 22 nursing facilities in Zhuhai, of which nine are public, 11 private and two publicly funded but privately run.
