Rail travel time from Zhuhai to Zhanjiang City in southwest Guangdong will be cut to 4.2 hours from the current 5.5 hours when the D7126 bullet train begins daily runs from Zhuhai MRT Station in Gongbei at 8:25 am on Oct 11.

China Railway Corp says on its website that the train will transit Zhongshan; Guangzhou South; Xinhui, Kaiping South, and Yangjiang in Jiangmen; and Mata, Dianbai, and Maoming in Maoming before reaching Zhanjiang West Railway Station at 12:46 in the afternoon. The station is 172 km (107 miles) north of Haikou of Hainan Island and 424 km (264 miles) from Gongbei Port.

The D7128 will leave Zhanjiang West at 4:36 pm and arrive in Zhuhai at 8:43 pm. In-between stops include Maoming, Yangjiang, Enping, Xinhui, Guangzhou South, and Zhongshan.

Tickets for second-, first-, and business-class seats will cost 243 yuan ($34), 372 yuan ($52), and 723 yuan ($102) respectively.

At present, Zhanjiang-bound rail travelers transfer at Xiaolan, a small town in northwest Zhongshan.

Zhanjiang, which was once occupied by the French and today has a French-styled street, is a haven for seafood gourmands. Any random street bistro or vendor stand around the port city can satisfy appetites with grilled oysters and lobsters, steamed grouper and crabs, and other catches from the sea that are flavored with seasoned garlic.
