The last main tower pier of the Honghe Bridge was topped off on Nov 8, keeping it on track to open before the 13th China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition (Airshow China) in November 2020.

Pier 4 is 168 m (equivalent to a 60-story building) tall and higher than three others. The piers are made of C50 high-performance concrete and shaped like water drops. Their structure is more varied in cross-section and complex in construction compared with cylindrical and H-shaped piers.

The focus of construction has now shifted to the upper structure; the two parts are expected to connect in early May.

Costing 4 billion yuan ($571 million), the 9.65-km (6-mile) Honghe Bridge spans the Hongwan and Modaomen waterways, It is China's first expressway bridge consisting of two 500-m (547-yd) span double-pylon double-plane cable-stayed bridges.

Starting at the Hongwan Interchange in Nanping Town, the Honghe Bridge project accesses the link line of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and runs westward. Upon completion, it will join the Xianghai and Jinhai bridges as a pivotal connection between Zhuhai's East and West wings.
