Updated: 2019-12-03

Terminal II construction commenced on Nov 29 to increase the overall capacity of Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport to 27.5 million passengers by 2027.

Covering 190,000 sq m (47 acres), seabird-shaped Terminal II will be connected by concourse to Terminal I on its west side. Its polygonal cornice will not only echo the earlier terminal in architectural style, but also illustrate images of seabirds, shells, waves, and corollas. The wavy ceiling and interior facade will highlight the marine characteristics of the city and "Happy Flying" concept of the airport.

Supportive facilities include an apron, second taxiway, relocated firefighting master station, and isolated aircraft stands.

Construction of the new ramp tower, oil supply base, and China Southern Airlines maintenance base will soon get underway, as will renovation of the apron and aircraft stands. All work is expected to be completed by late June 2023.

In addition to the renovation and expansion projects, an Integrated Service Center will be built north of Terminal I by 2023. The facility will allow seamless transfers between air, MRT, metro, bus, taxi, and private transportation modes, while housing a commercial service center, civil air defense facilities, and parking lots for taxis and buses.

Currently, the airport is on the brink of its designed capacity with only the 92,000-sq-m (23-acre) Terminal I, a 45-m-wide (49-yd-wide) 4,000-m (4374-yd) runway, and VIP and International buildings that are still under construction on 25,000 sq m (6 acres).
