Zhuhai and Macao held their first-of-its-kind joint fireworks display with musical accomplishment at the shorefronts of the Macao Tower and Hengqin Financial Island on Dec 22 in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland.

The 30-minute extravaganza kicked off at 9 pm with the melody I Love You China as fireworks spelled out "Congratulations" and "20."

Launched were 160,000 fireworks themed "Beautiful China, Rejoicing Homeland," "Get Together in Macao as the Years Go Passing By," "Macao & Zhuhai Are United As One Family," and "Constructing the Greater Bay Area Together."

Meanwhile, 600 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) assumed the shapes of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Zhuhai Opera House, and Ruins of Saint Paul's, cultural elements such as holding hands, as well as characters including "Zhuhai & Macao Are One Family" and "20."

The UAV performance was choreographed by Shenzhen DAMODA Intelligent Control Technology, producer of the drone formation shown at the 2019 China Central Television's Spring Festival Gala. This time, they displayed a stereoscopic formation of high technical difficulties and precision flight.

At 13 minutes and 6 seconds into the fireworks, 56 USVs manipulated by Zhuhai-based Yunzhou-Tech appeared on both sides of the Sai Van Bridge. The red heart they formed amidst the golden fireworks signified mutual affection and assistance between Zhuhai and Macao.

The USVs then split into two formations in the waters of Zhuhai and Macao at 17 minutes and 28 seconds. They formed an angle with the bridge to take the shape of a large aircraft ready to take off amid the silver fireworks, which symbolized the hand-to-hand leapfrog development of Zhuhai and Macao. Once again merging, the fluctuating colorful lights of the formations extended the wish for a splendid future through synergic development.

Around 100,000 people watched the performance in Zhuhai. A local surnamed Liu said that the fireworks demonstrated inseparable ties between Macao and the motherland, promising development of the Greater Bay Area, and broad prospects of Zhuhai-Macao cooperation.
