Travelers are being advised that the weatherproof corridor (there are two: one for entry, the other for exit) connecting Gongbei and Macao border-crossing facilities will be demolished and rebuilt right after the Lunar New Year celebrations.

Instead, use Hengqin Checkpoint or Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Zhuhai Port even now because Gongbei Checkpoint traditionally has the most Spring Festival traffic. Already, Gongbei Checkpoint broke its own national record of 483,900 single-day border crossings by processing 499,000 people on Jan 11.

According to the Zhuhai Ports Administrative Bureau, the current weatherproof corridor will be rebuilt to improve the environment. A temporary passage is already in place and passengers can still clear customs in line following on-site instructions.

Travelers choosing Hengqin Checkpoint can take Buses Z50, Z55, Z56, 62, or N20, and those intending to use Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Zhuhai Port can take Buses 3, 12, 23, 25, or L1.

Moreover, an alternative crossing will be in service during and after Spring Festival. Wanzai Checkpoint reopens on Jan 23 with an hourly capacity of 3,840 crossings. Located on South Nanwan Road adjacent to the Wanzai Tourist Terminal, the checkpoint is only 6 km from Gongbei Checkpoint and it takes only about 10 minutes to cross by ferry to the Macao side. Take Buses 61 or 62 to Wanzai Checkpoint (湾仔口岸), or 5, 14, 60, 86, 87, 89, K10, or K11 to Wanzai Tourist Terminal (湾仔旅游码头).
