The southern campus of the Zhuhai Women's & Children's Hospital is being inspected and having equipment installed prior to trial operation June 22 and opening on July 1.

Costing 1.23 billion yuan ($172 million), the 12-story 5G-enabled facility is located at 3366 Nanqin Road in Guangsheng Village, Nanping Town. The complex has floorage of 124,700 sq m (31 acres) and is built to Grade-3 Class-A standards. There will be 800 patient beds and a 950-stall parking lot.

On the second floor are the Outpatient Department of Obstetrics and a Reproductive Center said to have a mature grasp of 3rd-generation test-tube baby technology based on 21 years of experience.

The free position, water, and family labor rooms will be on the third floor, as will operating theaters, a well-equipped treatment center for maternal near misses (MNM) and intensive care units (ICU).

The Neonatal Intensive Care units (NICU), which will occupy 20 of 100 beds in the Neonatology Department, will have advanced medical hanging towers, central surveillance systems, and imported breathing machines and incubators.

The facility will have 180 beds for the Obstetrics Department. Prenatal and Postpartum wards are on the 5th floor. The latter, available in VIP, triple, and twin room types, will have 86 patient beds.

Also in-house are Emergency, Outpatient, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Breast Surgery, and Medical Technology departments, medical laboratories, day-care units, and administrative office and conference areas.

The hospital will provide medical treatment for women and children from all three Zhuhai districts, Hengqin New Area, and Zhongshan's Tanzhou Town, many of places not having a scaled women's and children's hospital. It will also be the site of relevant scientific research and teaching and serve as a regional treatment center for MNM pregnant and lying-in women and newborns in critical condition.   

The new facility will focus on medical treatment, while the original campus on Ningxi Road of Old Xiangzhou will center on healthcare. Patients can commute between the two campuses via free coaches.

During the trial operation period from June 22 to 30, consultation fees of general and expert clinics will be waived, while those of VIP and Renowned Doctor clinics will be halved. The general and expert clinics will offer a 50 percent discount throughout July. In-patients will receive a free daily meal and gratis physical examination worth 300 yuan ($42) upon discharge.
