Updated: 2020-07-02

The first 5G-enpowered charging station in Zhuhai is being put into operation by Kee Kwan New-Energy Vehicle Science & Technology (Guangdong).

The intelligent station is located on 1st Cuizhu Road (off the west side of South Mingzhu Road) in Qianshan. It integrates new infrastructure with Internet of Vehicles (IoV) technology. Therefore, it can charge 60 buses and coaches simultaneously and use 5G technology to calculate parking fees via vehicle entry-exit management, monitor on-site through video surveillance, and release livelihood information for the government.

Charging poles and associated hardware at the station can provide a quick response under big data management. Around-the-clock service is available with staff on standby; the charging station is the first in Zhuhai to have personnel specifically trained to charge coaches.

A unified systematic management of citywide charging poles will be implemented with increased efficiency. Based on cloud computing, the operator will determine where to build more charging stations, according to chairwoman Xiao Caiwen.

There currently are fewer than 400 public direct-current fast-charging ports in Zhuhai, not counting self-use charging stations for buses and coaches. The number of charging stations has fallen behind that of growing purchases of new-energy vehicles.

In addition, many current charging poles utilize an outdated 2G low-bitrate Internet of Things capacity or have sustained damages, malfunctions, and low use rates as motorists do not know where to find them.

The 5G service stations are meant to contribute to the electrification of Zhuhai urban transport and form a safe, convenient, efficient, green, and intelligent system.

Kee Kwan opened the first public coach charging station in 2017 to serve electric coaches, sightseeing buses, taxis, and shuttle buses between Zhuhai and Macao. In the first half of this year, the company built many large public charging stations in the city's major transport nodes and the Greater Bay Area’s first charging station base for a tourist service center. Kee Kwan has become the designated charging service provider of many transport enterprises and has powered thousands of electric vehicles.
