Radiant fields of lavender myrtle blossom in Pingsha
More than 20,000 deep lavender crape myrtle trees are in bloom to attract photographers and sightseers to Pingtang Wudui (Pingtang Team 5) in Pingsha Town of Jinwan District this summer and autumn.
Covering more than 200 mu (13 hectares, 32 acres), the flower base at Pingtang Team 5 is open at free admission. Cultivated there are multiple species including lagerstroemia indica, handroanthus impetiginosus (pink trumpet trees), melaleuca viminalis (weeping bottlebrush), and Japanese crape myrtle. Photos can be taken amidst the floral sea.
Crape myrtle trees have showy blooms and long florescence from June to September, and are called "百日红" (bǎi rì hóng -- red for a hundred days).
By car, navigate to "平沙镇平塘五队" (Píngshā zhèn píngtáng wǔduì; Team 5, Pingtang, Pingsha Town) and drive using GPS.
