Diverse attractions bring throngs of tourists to Zhuhai
Tourism revenue of 1.3 billion yuan ($194 million) was collected during the eight-day Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday, according to the Zhuhai Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism & Sports Bureau.
Statistics show that the majority of the 1.87 million travelers, of whom 445,700 stayed overnight, were from other Guangdong cities, with those from out of province and locals comprising the rest.
Islands of the Wanshan Marine Development Experimental Zone attracted 42,000 people during the holiday, up 10.5 percent year-on-year. Tourist volume peaked Oct 2 at a record high of 6,699.
The frequency of daily island-hopping ferries increased to 74 due to growing demand. A departure was scheduled every 10 to 20 minutes at peak times. Newly launched ferry routes from Guangzhou's Nansha Port to Guishan and Wailingding islands carried an additional 640 travelers during the period.
Tourism spending rose by 14.3 percent year-on-year to 50.4 million yuan ($7.5 million) in Wanshan as major island hotels, B&Bs, and restaurants were, on the whole, full from Oct 1 to 7. More than 2,500 tourists took part in motorboating, stand-up paddling, banana boating, and waterborne magic carpet rides at Guishan, Dong'ao, and Wailingding islands.

In addition, theme parks Chimelong International Ocean Resort, Lionsgate Entertainment World, National Geographic Ultimate Explorer, and New Yuanming Palace put on gold-award circus acts, unmanned aerial vehicle performances, fireworks and light shows, parades, and interactive entertainment facilities.
Health-oriented Ocean Spring Resort in Jinwan District supplemented hot springs with a music carnival and fireworks, while the Yu Wen Quan Imperial Hot Springs Resort in Doumen integrated its traditional buffet into temple fair activities.
Gourmands were treated to more than 200 international culinary delicacies at Macao International Cultural & Food Festival at Legend Ponto Square in Hengqin New Area, as well as 100 Zhuhai specialties during the 2020 Tangjia Cuisine carnival in the National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone (Tangjiawan).
Double-decker sightseeing buses "Lovers Avenue – Impression of Zhuhai" were popular, garnering an average daily passenger volume of 3,600, as were sightseeing trips Zhuhai-Macao Bay Cruise, Macao Cruise Tour, and Touring Around Zhuhai by Sea.
The newly spruced up Xiangshan Lake and Sea & Sky (Haitian) parks attracted hordes of visitors for fitness, sightseeing, and leisure activities.
Zhuhai recorded 156,300 road trips and 281,800 air travelers in and out of the city on 2,041 flights. Passenger throughput at five Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity MRT stations totaled 560,200, and that of Zhuhai Airport Urban Rail Transit Phase I was 42,300.
In terms of water transport, 72,500 people took ferries between Jiuzhou Port and Shenzhen's Shekou and Bao'an International Airport ports. The newly launched Wanzai-Macao, Hengqin-Shekou, and Guangzhou-Wanshan routes welcomed 7,600, 17,200, and 1,200 passengers, respectively.
