A 2-billion-yuan ($298-million) fitness-for-all Training Hall came under construction Oct 28 at the west entrance of Zhuhai Sports Center in New Xiangzhou.

By 2023, there will be 26 venues for badminton, basketball, fencing, tennis, table tennis, bowling, archery, squash, and taekwondo, among other sports. Built to national standards, the Comprehensive Match and Shooting halls will host high-level international events.

In addition, the complex will have a "Sport Plus" retail business zone that includes catering, entertainment, and living services, a cultural/sport enterprise office zone, boutique five-star Indigo hotel, and Zhuhai's first light-luxury hotel-styled office area.

The project will address the lack of indoor spaces at downtown Xiangzhou community sports parks, small- and medium-sized facilities for mass fitness at the Sports Center, and complete venues for various sports citywide, said Wu Xiangming, deputy director of the Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism & Sports Bureau.

With floorage of 200,000 sqm (49 acres), the complex will occupy 25,000 sqm (6 acres) at the intersection of West Meihua and Jianmin roads. The builder, Zhuhai Gerui Construction & Development, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zhuhai Gree Group.
