Zhuhai reports great economic, political, cultural, social, and ecological progress in tandem with domestic peers during 2020 -- China's target year to decisively have alleviated poverty and created a well-off society in a comprehensive way.

The coastal city has an amiable living environment in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Local air quality has long been among the best in the country, and the average life expectancy matches the international advanced level.

Zhuhai has dedicated its most desirable land sites to parks and public architecture, says Mayor Yao Yisheng. Zhuhai Opera House on Yeli Island and the Zhuhai Museum & Planning Exhibition Hall, for instance, offer most picturesque urban surroundings while enriching cultural life.

The city has also been improving local living conditions. For example, all public buses are electric and the fare on all city routes is 1 yuan (15 cents). All artery and sub-arterial roads in downtown Zhuhai have been upgraded. A cross-river bridge or tunnel is to be built every year through 2025, while a group of newly constructed or expanded hospitals will come into operation.

Due to an innovation-driven development strategy and support for talents, Zhuhai has become a fertile ground for innovation and entrepreneurship. A modern industrial system has taken shape featuring sustainable development and harmonious co-existence between humans and nature.

Sharing its experiences in self-development, Zhuhai is working with other jurisdictions to create common prosperity. The city has paired up with Yangjiang and Maoming cities in Guangdong Province, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan, Litang and Daocheng counties in Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, Wushan County of Chongqing Municipality, and Milin County of Linzhi City, in Tibet.
