A 3-km (1.86-mile) hiking trail has replaced a dirt road leading from the north to the first peak in the portal of the Pearl River – Huangyang Mt – which rises between Doumen and Baijiao towns. Nonetheless, visitors are currently discouraged because of a red alert for forest fires.

Construction commenced in late September and took four months. Four sightseeing platforms and stone benches are yet to be installed and landscaping completed. The original mountain scenery was maintained to "the utmost extent."

The trail leads to Huangyang's highest peak of 581 m (1,906 ft) from which hikers can view three Pearl River estuaries. The path is 1.5-m wide (5-ft) and paved with 16,000 antiskid granite dressed stones. Steeper sections have guardrails, according to Xiong Liang, head of the Transport Construction Subsection of the Doumen (Housing & Construction) Transport Bureau.

In addition to fitness and sightseeing, the hiking trail will also serve as a buffer zone against forest fires and emergency passage for firefighters.
