Kung Fu creatures due to vitalize Hengqin night tourism
Family audiences will be immersed in holographic projections, motion sensing games, and Dolby Atmos "surround sound" music in the outdoor atrium at Novotown in Hengqin New Area during Spring Festival.
Premiering Feb 11, Zhuhai's first large interactive light-shadow show will help vitalize night tourism as the industry recovers from the epidemic. Transcending conventional lighting, sound, or stage effects, the production is meant to build tourism through novel and special methods.
The show – Wonders of Kungfu – utilizes traditional culture to portray the adventure of five animals who are fond of Kungfu and Chinese culinary delicacies. The rabbit and monkey are selected from the Twelve Chinese Zodiac Signs, while the tiger and crane are from Five-Animal Exercises created by Hua Tuo, a famed Chinese physician and surgeon who lived in the late Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220).

A main character, Taotie is a cute mythical beast that represents the sin of gluttony in the Classic of Mountains & Seas but who shows children in a fun way how to get along with others. Taotie evinces typical childhood fallible and emotional expressions but is always kind and lovable. Many of his actions are driven by moods and instinct, and he needs to learn to discipline and restrain himself.
The setting is a fictional village along the Tianmu River and at the foot of Wuzhi (Five-Finger) Mt on Hengqin Island. The mountain is inspired by the shape of three architectural structures that suggest an open palm in Novotown Phase I. The night adventure welcomes visitors to participate as villagers.
In addition to topiaries, "mythological" trees and waterfalls inside the Novotown complex will create a suitable atmosphere at the 5,000-sqm (1.24-acre) outdoor atrium garden. A dozen experience zones are called Zither Wonderland, Bazaar of Wristbands, Kungfu Village, Cooking House at Sunset, Story of Stone, Flowing Creek, Thousand Gates, Valley of Clouds and Mist, Pitch-pot Palace, and Full Moon Gate.
The show is expected to become a popular parent-child tourism attraction. It is choreographed by a team led by Wang Zhigang, director of the Department of Information, Art & Design of the Academy of Arts & Design of Tsinghua University.
