Construction of the Jin'gang (Golden Port) Bridge, shortening the route from Gaolan Port to Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport, is to commence before the end of this year and be completed by 2025.

A feasibility study of the project, which will further promote development of the city's west wing, is open for bidding, states a Feb 26 public notice on the website of Zhuhai Communication Group.

The six-lane bridge project, 14.5 km (9 miles) long and 23.5 m (77 ft) wide, will have a speed limit of 60 kmph (37 mph). From the harbor at the Gaolan Port Expressway, the route follows 5th Shihua Road, and crosses the Jitimen Waterway estuary to a new interchange with West Airport Road in Jinwan District.

A west extension of Airport Express Road, the bridge will form a significant part of Zhuhai's Six Horizontal & Ten Vertical transport network. It will accentuate the city's strategic advantages in water and air transportation and boost integrated development of Jinwan District and the Gaolan Port Economic Zone by connecting the sole deep-water port and civic airport with passenger throughput of over 10 million on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary.

In addition, the bridge will help establish Zhuhai as a transport hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and form a clustered urban spatial structure, according to the Zhuhai Highway Affairs Center, the project handler.
