The expansive new Shili Lianjiang Agriculture, Tourism & Health Small Town in Doumen District will contain a landmark Agricultural Science Building by April 2022. Approval of a construction permit was posted March 4 by the Zhuhai Natural Resources Bureau.

Located in Lianjiang Village, Lianzhou Town, east of 272 Provincial Road and north of Sanwan Road and the Shili Lianjiang Agriculture Sightseeing & Experience Garden, the 3,986-sqm (1-acre) site has been enclosed for clearing and leveling. The four-story building will have floor area of 6,722.83 sqm (1.66 acres) with an underground parking for 38 vehicles.

With Lianjiang meaning "lotus river," the design is inspired by the concept of "a drop of dew in a lotus leaf," with the top floor to serve as sightseeing platform.

The facility is to integrate primary, secondary, and tertiary industries with agricultural science, intangible cultural heritage exhibitions, creative agricultural products, medium- and high-end educational research and study, and immersive experience of intangible cultural heritages related to agriculture.

Furthermore, the building will house convention centers and science and exhibition halls as a regional center and window for industrial innovation and research.

Shili Lianjiang Agriculture, Tourism & Health Small Town covers 6,000 mu (400 hectares, 988 acres) and is being developed by investment company Kaisa Health Group and Shili Lianjiang Agricultural Tourism Development. The initial area of 500 mu (33 hectares, 82 acres) will encompass a rice paddy field hotel, commercial street, tourist center, organic restaurant, cultural-creative fair, B&Bs, greenhouses, farms, wetlands, fishing club, children's forest adventure amusement park, and idyllic classrooms.
