Work begun on large park to engage children outdoors
Ground for an extensive modern Zhuhai Children's Park was broken March 22 near the Xiangshan Rest Station in New Xiangzhou to provide educational activities and parent-child sports facilities later this year.
Costing more than 600 million yuan ($92 million), the park will occupy 250,000 sqm (62 acres) at the southern foot of Fenghuang (Phoenix) Mt and intersection of Meihua and Yingbin Feeder of Xingye Express roads. It will have two entrances to the Xiangshan Cloud Walkway and more than 1,300 parking spots.

The layout reportedly is inspired by the patterns of a flying phoenix and auspicious clouds that match nearby landforms. Ten game islands for children of various ages will occupy three zones connected by a small tourist train.
Creative Amusement Park in the west will house a library as well as angling, waterborne activities, virtual reality games, DIY events, and brand and career experiences.
The mountainous northern zone will guide children to explore nature through treehouse camping and outward development activities, natural classrooms, a parent-child vegetable garden, as well as a forest theater, restaurant, and slides.
Moreover, the eastern zone will be dominated by modern water and forest amusement parks, a large sandpit, "hydraulic engineering" project, and game zones.
Work is being done by Zhuhai Xiangzhou Zhengfang Holdings. Within a year, the project will help meet Zhuhai's need for children's amusement facilities. It will supplement the Teenager, Woman & Children's Activity Center of Zhuhai on North Yingbin Road, which offers extra-curricular courses including painting, calligraphy, and dancing.
