Figs, dates, Taiwan pineapples, cherry tomatoes, mulberries, and watermelons are ready for harvest in Jinwan District.

More than 60 mu (4 hectares, 10 acres) of common figs (ficus carica), have ripened at Zhuhai Lv Yuan Agriculture in Jinzhou Community, Nanshui Town. Local air, soil, and water provide suitable conditions for healthy and tasty fruit.

He Jingwen, person-in-charge of the plantation base, says common fig yield will reach 100,000 kg this year, with each kg sold at 60 yuan ($9). In addition, more than 40 mu (3 hectares, 7 acres) of grapes will be available for picking during the May Day holiday.

The base has over 130 mu (9 hectares, 22 acres) of fruit plantations, and a 170-mu (11-hectare, 28-acre) "Vegetable Basket" base will come into operation in June with an estimated annual output of over 1,450 tons. Costing 9.5 million yuan ($1.5 million), the facility will be developed into an 800-mu (53-hectare, 132-acre) agricultural park and education base that integrates plantations, R&D, processing, sales, sightseeing, and parent-child and team-building activities in five years.

Nearby, Chinese dates, cherry tomatoes, and mulberries are also ready for picking at Green Fingers Farm and Taiwan Farmers Venture Park in Pingsha Town.

At the plantation of Taiwan Farmers Venture Park Characteristic & Quality Fruits, watermelons, muskmelons, eggplants, and green peppers are ready to harvest. Papayas will enter the market in June, and next come Chinese dates (iziphus mauritiana).

The facility is to become a demonstration base for boutique efficient stereoscopic agricultural plantations with new species provided by the Zhuhai Modern Agriculture Development Center. Maize and watermelon and other crops will be alternatively planted to realize land recycling, said executive Xia Guojian.

Taiwan pineapples are being picked, packaged, and delivered to customers all around the country at a plantation of more than 100 mu (7 hectares, 17 acres) in Sixth Production Team of Pingsha's Dahaihuan Village. Fifteen mu (1 hectare, 2.5 acres) of hand-torn pineapples and an improved wax apple species will be on the market during the May Day holiday.

In Mutouchong Village of Sanzao Town, mango and carambola (star fruit) trees in Xiancao Valley Farm are bearing fruit that will be ripe in June. Those aged 16 or over can even rent a vegetable garden amid the floral seas along Crane Trail for one year.

Cherry tomatoes are just in season at Shiqiu Agricultural Plantation in Bayi Community, Hongqi Town, and 30 mu (2 hectares, 5 acres) of grapes, watermelons, and papayas will be obtainable in June.
